We visited Lagg Distillery, the second distillery on the Isle of Arran.
We’d learned there was a distillery from the map, but when we were at Lochranza Distillery they asked, “Do you know Lagg?” and as we listened we wanted to go, so we decided on the spur of the moment.
We went without a booking, but happened to be able to join a tour.
It was a distillery with really beautiful scenery.

Features of the Distillery
Lagg Distillery, built in 2019, is the second distillery to be built on the Isle of Arran; the north side of the island is Lochranza and the south is Lagg.
Whisky production resumed on Arran in 1995, and after Lochranza Distillery achieved success, Lagg Distillery was built to follow it.
Unlike Arran Malt, it’s characterized by a heavily peated style.
Location / Access
After joining the morning tour at Lochranza Distillery, we went by bus in the afternoon.
On the way back there was no bus that fit the timing, so we took a taxi back to Lochranza.
For the taxi, we borrowed the phone from the people at Lochranza Distillery…
I struggled a bit to catch the English, lol. We told them what time we wanted them to come to Lagg and where we wanted to go back to.
There’s really nothing around Lagg Distillery, no lights either, and we were worried whether the taxi would actually come, lol.
In winter it gets dark after around 4 p.m.

The Distillery’s Exterior
There wasn’t even a house around — the distillery really stood all alone.
But because of that the scenery was really beautiful, and the building was new and lovely too.
The Tour We Joined
They make the whisky in what’s essentially a single room.
The view you can see beyond the stills was superb too.
They let us taste the new make.
We did the tasting in the tasting room inside the cask room.We got a glass too.

Shop and Cafe
There’s a cafe, and since we were hungry, we sat by the window and had a little lunch while enjoying the beautiful scenery.
The shop was spacious and had a really nice atmosphere too.
Summary
You’ve started to see the whisky in Japan too, but I’d really love you to enjoy the peated whisky of Arran, and if you get a chance to go to Arran, you can enjoy how it differs from Lochranza Distillery — so it was a distillery I’d love you to make the extra trip to visit.
