We joined the tour at GlenAllachie Distillery.
It was a whisky we hadn’t had much before, so we got to enjoy a new flavor.

Features of the Distillery
GlenAllachie means “valley of Allachie,” and Allachie comes from the Gaelic for “rocky.”
Founded in 1967, it was originally built to secure malt for the blend Mackinlay’s.
It’s a white, modern building, designed by Delme Evans.
It was the first distillery to introduce a pre-heating system using a heat exchanger.
The current owner is Billy Walker.
The mashing water comes from a spring near Ben Rinnes.
The spirit was once used for Clan Campbell blends, but now the focus is on its own single malts.
Location / Access
It’s about a 30-minute walk from the town of Aberlour.
There’s nothing along the way, so once it gets dark there are no lights and it turns pitch black.

The Distillery’s Exterior
It was a simple building with a somewhat nostalgic feel.
The visitor center was on the left as you go in.
The Tour We Joined
First, in the tasting room next to the shop, we had one tasting and heard about the distillery’s history, then toured the inside.
In the end we tasted four kinds of whisky.
We also got to watch a video on how it’s made.

The Shop
The shop isn’t big, but it had a lovely atmosphere using casks.
Summary
It was a whisky we hadn’t had much before, but having visited around 40 distilleries by this point and learned all sorts of things about tasting, I could really pick up on this complex flavor.
Complex yet wonderfully balanced — this complexity really stood out to me as the defining characteristic of GlenAllachie’s whisky.
The distillery staff were very kind too, and it was a fun visit.
