We visited Jura Distillery, north of Islay.
Taking the poorly connected ferry and bus (lol), we made the most of beautiful Jura!
Unfortunately, photos inside were completely off-limits, and we had to hand in our phones and cameras during the tour, so we only have photos of the exterior and the tasting.

Features of the Distillery
Jura is a deer island with more deer than people — about 4,000 deer against a population of 200.
In the Islands malt region, founded in 1810, it’s in the center of the village of Craighouse.
After disputes with the landlord over rent, it was closed for half a century into the 20th century, but reopened in 1963.
At the time of rebuilding, the policy was not to smoke the malt with peat, but now it does heavily peated mashing too.
Location / Access
From Port Askaig, take the ferry to Jura.
Then take the poorly connected bus to the distillery.
There was a toilet in the waiting room, which was reassuring, but the waiting room wasn’t a very clean place, lol.
In the cold, we waited for a bus we weren’t sure would actually come, lol.
We made sure to tell the bus driver our return time, lol.
The connections are poor, but if you build in plenty of time, you’ll be fine.

The Distillery’s Exterior and Shop
The distillery shop isn’t that big, but it had a cool feel, with whiskies lined up.
The Tour We Joined
At the start of the tour, we handed in our smartphones, cameras, and the like before beginning.
There was a bigger space in the back than we’d expected.
After the tour, we chose two of the whiskies displayed in the shop.
Between the two of us we drank four kinds in total.

Summary
I’d never come across Jura whisky before, but it was delicious.
Even more than that, since it was sunny, we were moved by the beauty of the scenery.
There seems to be a hotel in front of the distillery too, so staying over and soaking up the scenery is a good option too.
