On January 2nd, at the start of the year, we went to Glenkinchie Distillery.
It’s the distillery that provides one of the malts for Johnnie Walker, home of the Striding Man, and for us it was the fourth and final distillery.

Features of the Distillery
Located 20 km east of Edinburgh, it was founded in 1837.
It began when the Rate brothers set it up as a sideline to their farming, and it still owns around 100,000 tsubo (about 330,000 m²) of farmland today.
The name Kinchie comes from the River Kinchie.
Its pot stills are among the largest in capacity in Scotland, and 90% of its spirit goes into Johnnie Walker.
Getting There / Access
From Edinburgh, go to a town called Pencaitland, then walk about 35 minutes to reach it.

The Distillery’s Exterior
Of Johnnie Walker’s four key malts, this was the fourth distillery for us.
We said hello to the Striding Man, too! lol
The Tour We Joined
It was tour production that really lived up to the name of Diageo.
There was a still from the illegal-distilling era and a model showing how whisky is made, and you could watch clear videos about the characteristics of Johnnie Walker’s four key malts.
We toured the distillery in order.

The Final Tasting
For the final tasting, we had three kinds plus a cocktail.
We’re always slow to finish (well, everyone else is just too fast! lol), so we drank the rest at the bar next door.
There were also paid tastings available, so we took our time.

Since it was January 2nd, the start of the year, we had a whisky to say HAPPY NEW YEAR.
