Our third stop on Islay was a visit to Lagavulin Distillery.
We were staying in Port Ellen, and went from there by bus to Lagavulin Distillery.
The shop was a very stylish space too, and we could even enjoy a tasting.

Features of the Distillery
It’s a distillery built 4 km east along the coast from Port Ellen harbor, the southern gateway of Islay.
There used to be a White Horse sign indicating it as the malt for White Horse, but now it’s a Lagavulin-only sign.
It’s the distillery where White Horse’s founder, Peter Mackie, trained.
Location / Access
We were staying in Port Ellen, so we went from Port Ellen by bus.
There aren’t many buses, so we arrived quite early.
We waited outside until opening time.

The Tour We Joined and Price
We joined the Lagavulin Classic Tour (£22 / 4,200 yen).
It’s the basic tour, a set of a distillery tour and a tasting.
The Distillery’s Exterior
There’s nothing around, but the building was really cool.

We were able to tour it thoroughly.
Tasting
They let us take our time with a tasting in a room for tasting.
We received three whiskies and a glass.

Shop and Bar
Personally, I really loved this shop’s atmosphere and colors.
Since we went before Christmas, the Christmas tree made of bottles was really cute too.
Summary
Lagavulin whisky is personally memorable for me, so I was really happy to be able to go.
Being able to feel the deliciousness of Islay peat was just the best.
