The second place we visited in Campbeltown was Glengyle Distillery.
This one is right next to the Springbank site.
Even though they’re in almost the same spot, we got to enjoy a whisky called Kilkerran with a completely different flavor.

Features of the Distillery
Of Campbeltown’s three distilleries — Springbank, Glengyle, and Glen Scotia — Glengyle doesn’t release a product under the name “Glengyle,” and instead releases it under the name “Kilkerran.”
The first reason is that a whisky named “Glengyle” already existed in the Highlands, and they couldn’t buy the rights to use that name, and they wanted to avoid confusion between the existing one and their own product.
The second is that, because Glengyle Distillery takes great pride in inheriting and carrying on Campbeltown’s traditions, they decided to name it after the original settlement on which Campbeltown stands, “Ceann Loch ‘Cille Chiarain’.”

In central Campbeltown, the tour starts from the same entrance as Springbank.

The Distillery’s Exterior
The Glengyle building is behind Springbank.
The Tour We Joined
We joined the Kilkerran Tour.
It was £12 per person (about 2,200 yen), and the tour included a tasting and a bottle.
We booked this together with Springbank.
You can see everything up to distillation in essentially one room.

The Shop
The shop was a shared space with Springbank.
Summary
Honestly, I didn’t know Kilkerran whisky until we went.
Recently you’ve started to see it sold in Japan too.
I’d recommend enjoying it as a set with Springbank to appreciate the difference.
