Following Aberfeldy and Tullibardine, we took the bus from the town of Perth to The Glenturret Distillery.
Glenturret changed owners, and its bottle design changed to something very stylish.
We joined a slightly pricier tour, so we savored some rather upscale whiskies at an impossibly lavish bar.
Here’s a look at how it went.

Features of the Distillery
Founded in 1775, it’s 20 km west of Perth.
It’s the oldest of the surviving distilleries, and in the illegal-distilling era it was making whisky from 1717.
It was closed from 1923 to 1959, then revived from there.
It’s famous for the whisky cat Towser, who caught 28,899 mice and made it into Guinness.
It’s also known as a malt for The Famous Grouse.
Location / Access
You can get there by bus from Perth.
They drop you off at a spot with no bus-stop marker (lol), and from there it’s about a 15-minute walk to the distillery.
On the way back, if you stand at the same spot facing the opposite direction, the bus will pick you up.
There aren’t many buses, so you really start to worry whether one will actually come (lol), but we made it back to Perth safely.

The Distillery’s Exterior
The building at the front as you enter was the tour’s reception/starting point.
Heading further in from there, you’ll find the shop and cafe.
The Tour
We couldn’t take photos of the tour.
At the end of the tour, we did a tasting together with the people on the regular tour.
After that, since we’d booked a slightly nicer tour, we tasted even better whiskies at the impossibly lavish bar above the shop.
The guide was very friendly too, and we could take our time.

Shop and Cafe
The shop had a very stylish feel too.
There’s a cafe too, where you can have a light meal.
Summary
It was a distillery that made us feel how much a whisky’s bottle and design can change its impression.
As other distilleries said too, no matter how delicious a whisky is, it won’t sell if the marketing doesn’t go well, so we really felt how many clever things they do.
For anyone who wants to feel a touch of luxury, this is a distillery I’d highly recommend.
