We took a bus from Stirling station to join the tour at Deanston Distillery.
It’s a slightly unusual distillery, built in what was originally a cotton mill.

Features of the Distillery
It was founded in 1965, but the building itself uses part of a cotton mill constructed in 1785.
It’s also famous as a filming location for the movie “The Angels’ Share,” and its mashing water comes from the River Teith.
It has four pot stills in total, and it also matures some of the spirit for Tobermory Distillery and the Islay distillery Bunnahabhain.
Being light and easy to drink is another of its characteristics.
Location / Access
It’s about a 30-minute bus ride from Stirling station.
There was nothing around it apart from the town.

The Distillery’s Exterior
We went on December 31st, and there was a little snow on the road.
It was a brick building with a different feel from other distilleries.
The Tour We Joined
Washbacks without lids are rare, so this was unusual to see.
They showed us around the inside of the distillery.
For the final tasting at the end of the tour, we had three kinds.

Shop and Bar
As soon as you enter the building there’s a shop, with a cafe next to it.
There’s a decent number of seats, so you can relax and enjoy your time.
Summary
It’s a distance you can just about manage from Edinburgh, too.
After we finished, we took the train from Stirling to Edinburgh.
Also, in the town of Stirling there’s a new distillery called Stirling, within walking distance of the castle, that you can drop by — so going there is a good option too.
