We took a bus from Aberdeen, Scotland’s third-largest city, to Glen Garioch Distillery.
It’s a distillery owned by Beam Suntory, and they make whisky here while keeping to traditional methods.

Features of the Distillery
The distillery is in the village of Oldmeldrum, once known as the granary of Aberdeenshire.
Founded in 1785, it’s one of the oldest distilleries in the Highlands.
It uses natural gas from North Sea oil fields as the heat source for its pot stills, and it once used waste heat and the carbon dioxide produced during fermentation to run a greenhouse (no longer in operation).
Bowmore, Auchentoshan, and Glen Garioch — the Highland one — are owned by Beam Suntory.
Location / Access
We went by bus from the Aberdeen bus terminal.
We also walked a little from the bus stop.

The Distillery’s Exterior
Heading in from the bus stop, the distillery is at the back, and passing through the cute arch on the right, you reach the visitor center.
The Tour We Joined
The floor malting area was still there, and they even showed us the mesh part of the kiln building.
We went around the distillery in order.
We had the final tasting in the space at the back of the shop.

Shop and Bar
The shop had a menu where you could also have a coffee.
At the reception-cum-till by the entrance, they let us do a tasting too.
Summary
Apparently they still don’t know why “Glen Garioch” is spelled that way but read “Glen Geery,” and there was also talk of how, thanks to being owned by Beam Suntory, a small distillery like this can survive.
In the cask room there was even the Japanese word “monozukuri” (craftsmanship), along with displays of products made from casks — so it was a tour where you could feel Japan, too.
