Here’s our visit report on Tsunuki Distillery(in 2022), the main event of our Kyushu whisky trip.

We went in the morning and enjoyed the whole first half of the day.

I’ll introduce how to enjoy Tsunuki Distillery — access, what the tour was like, the paid tasting, limited-edition whiskies, and more.

※For the latest information on English tours and whisky, please check the distillery’s official website.

Access/Location

The town nearest Tsunuki Distillery is the Kaseda area of Minamisatsuma City.

There are a few izakaya and such too, and it was a town more enjoyable than we’d imagined.

    [Location] Mars Tsunuki Distillery
    〒899-3611
6594 Kaseda Tsunuki, Minamisatsuma City, Kagoshima Prefecture
    TEL: 0993-55-2001

The bus comes once every two hours. The timetable is here.

On the way there, it was 2,640 yen by taxi from the hotel, taking a little under 20 minutes.

On the way back, we went from there to Makurazaki, taking the bus that runs once every two hours.

The bus fare was 1,260 yen for three people, 420 yen each.

Furthermore, we took the bus back to the hotel from Makurazaki too.

For the return, I’ve forgotten exactly, but I think it was under 2,000 yen for three people.

We went from Makurazaki back to Kaseda in one go.

Otherwise you can come by car, and there were even people who came by car for the tour, but personally, I’d love those who can drink to drink and go home.

▲ There’s a bus stop in front of the distillery.

Book the Tsunuki Distillery Tour Just in Case

We went during Golden Week, but only met a few groups.

I don’t think it’s a place that gets that crowded.

We just made a booking via the booking form.

If there are a lot of people, they apparently reply, but we got no reply, so we could go.

We arrived first thing in the morning, and someone came to explain the distillery, asking, “Are you the ones who booked?”

Let’s book just in case.

Booking is here.

There’s a reception on the right as you enter, so you check in.

The Distillery Tour Is Free(in 2022)

Perhaps because we’d booked, they called a guide for us.

As expected, being shown around is really fun! We got lovely talks as we went around.

Luckily, they guided us. People who came into the room partway through joined us and went around together too.

I’d love you to enjoy the content through the distillery staff’s explanation.

Here are some photos.

At the End, Savor the Paid Tasting

This tasting corner was the best. Before Covid you could apparently eat here too, but we just kept tasting.

You can have whisky while gazing at the garden.

On sunny days there’s a terrace too, and you can enjoy it in an open atmosphere.

We had it here.

You can taste rare whiskies.

▲ Asagi Madara (550 yen), Komagatake Christian Drouin Cask Finish (1,000 yen), The First (1,000 yen)

▲ This one is 5,000 yen. Probably gone by now.

▲ Natural Cask Strength (600 yen)

▲ Komagatake × Chichibu (1,000 yen), Matsuri Rum Cask (600 yen)

▲ Wa Bijin is a gin, but it was delicious, so we bought a bottle.

The three of us tasted various things. You can drink rare whiskies that those in the know will recognize.

With this, we enjoyed ourselves for over two hours. It was a wonderful space.

Limited-Edition Whiskies and Goods You Can Buy

We bought a few things at the souvenir corner next to the tasting corner too.

▲ We bought all this. We splurged…..

HHAE Is a Kagoshima-Exclusive Whisky

There are several whiskies you can buy at Tsunuki Distillery, but the one you can only buy in Kagoshima is HHAE, and besides that, the Tsunuki limited editions are hard to get too, so when you go to the distillery, please do buy them. (One per group)

Get the Logo Goods Too

▲ Coaster (1,280 yen), tray (2,480 yen)

▲ Aloha shirt, 2,700 yen. I’ll wear it at home parties.

▲ Glass (1,600 yen)

I’m quite smitten…..

Summary

Tsunuki Distillery was really fun.

If there hadn’t been a bus time, I think we’d have kept drinking forever and splurged, so we wrapped up at just the right time.

Please do go by public transport and drink happily.

Our spoils! It was a time of happiness.
