Rokkosan Whisky Distillery Tour Reviews-kobe,Japan

Distillery in Japan

※当サイトには広告・アフィリエイトリンクが含まれています。

At the end of April 2023, we visited Rokkosan Distillery in Kobe,Japan.

Japan’s most compact distillery!

Even though I live in Osaka, for some reason I’d finally never managed to go, so I was really happy to be able to go this time.

If you go near Mt. Rokko, please do stop by.

※For the latest information on English tours and whisky, please check the distillery’s official website.

Access/Location

Rokkosan Whisky Distillery is, as the name suggests, in the mountains of Mt. Rokko.

For access, you can apparently get there in about a 20-minute walk from the ropeway’s Rokko-sanjo Station.

I asked a friend who would drive, and we went by car.

There’s a parking lot too.

If you go by train, please check the ropeway times as well.

The Tour Is 1,500 Yen with a Tasting Included

1,500 yen with a tour and tasting included is very cheap, and we enjoyed it.

Book in advance on the website and pay on the day.

With shoe covers and a head cover on, off we go!

On the Tour You Can See Cedar Casks

Amazingly, they apparently run the distillation with just one still.

Rokkosan Distillery is a new distillery.

Because of that, they bring in new pot from Scotland and mature it in casks at Mt. Rokko, so it apparently can’t yet be called Japanese whisky.

I’d love you to hear the content on the tour, but the cask warehouse in particular had a lovely view.

Since it’s on Mt. Rokko, when you open the cask warehouse windows, you get a sweeping view of the sea toward Osaka.

When we went it was a little cloudy, but if it’s clear you’re lucky.

You Can Enjoy a Tasting Too

At the end we had a tasting.
・Rokkosan Whisky 12 Year Old
・Rokkosan Whisky Peated 12 Year Old
・Rokkosan Whisky Mizunara

We had these three kinds.

It was my first time having Mizunara, and personally I really loved it.

Souvenirs

At the tasting corner you can buy souvenirs like whisky.

Of course, we bought some to take home.

We also got a glass as a distillery-visit souvenir.

※ The whiskies on the left are goods from Gaiaflow Shizuoka Distillery.

Summary

Rokkosan Whisky Distillery, which I’d rarely had a chance to visit despite living in Kansai.

It’s a popular hiking spot too! Arima Onsen is nearby as well.

If you stop by nearby, please do come and play.
