Our third stop in Campbeltown was Glen Scotia Distillery.
Glen Scotia is also one of the precious three distilleries remaining in Campbeltown.
Its whisky has won awards, and honestly I didn’t know much about it before, but after going to the distillery it became a whisky I love.
Here’s a look at our visit.

Features of the Distillery
Founded in 1832, it was closed once in the 1930s but reopened in the early 1980s.
However, it stopped operating again in 1984, and has been owned by Loch Lomond since then.
A former owner was Duncan MacCallum, who, tormented by debt, threw himself into Campbeltown Loch. From this, rumor has it that a ghost appears inside the distillery.
It has one wash still and one spirit still.
Location / Access
It was about a 20-minute walk from central Campbeltown.

The Distillery’s Exterior
A big building appeared on the road after climbing a slight slope.
When they showed us inside on the tour, there was a cask mark too.
The Tour We Joined
We applied by email.
It seems they’re short-staffed, and they kindly replied by email to let us know it would be closed on the day we wanted to go.
I’d recommend contacting them to confirm the day you’ll go.
We paid £10 per person (about 2,000 yen) on-site.

Tasting
We could do a tasting, with a glass included.
It was my first time drinking it, and personally I was really moved.
Shop and Bar
It’s a cute, wooden-feeling shop-cum-tasting area.
It’s not big, but it had a lovely atmosphere.
Since they’re short-staffed, the shop was closed during the tour.

Summary
If you can make it to Campbeltown, I’d really love you to conquer all three distilleries — Springbank, Glengyle, and Glen Scotia.
Each has its own character, and it was so much fun.
We told the staff “we’ll buy Glen Scotia whisky in Japan too” as we left, lol.
