We visited Strathisla Distillery, which makes the malt for Chivas Regal, near a station called Keith.
It’s a very cute building, and the building itself was soothing.
The tour’s presentation was lovely too. Here’s a look at our visit.

Features of the Distillery
Built in 1786 as a second distillery to Glen Keith (the oldest in Speyside).
Strathisla, Glen Keith, Strathmill, Aultmore, Glentauchers, and Auchroisk — six together make up the Keith-area distilleries.
The pot stills come in two shapes: ball and lantern.
There are four in total, and the two older ones used direct coal firing until the late 1990s.
It’s the core malt behind Chivas Regal and Royal Salute.
Getting There / Access
The distillery is close to Keith station.
We were in Aberlour, so it would have been a bit of a detour, and we went by taxi.

The Distillery’s Exterior
The cute stone-brick building was really lovely.
The triangular-roofed part is the old malting tower, apparently a trademark of Speyside.
The Tour We Joined
First, we got to watch a lovely, cool video on Strathisla’s history and how whisky is made.

Shop and Bar
There’s a bar at the back of the shop, where you could also do a tasting.
It was such a stylish space and really comfortable.
Summary
Until we went, we didn’t even know it was the malt behind Chivas Regal.
You can’t often drink the single malt in Japan, so we got to have a really precious whisky.
